The Scratch Pad
Online Vet Consultations with Dr. Kris

This is your virtual appointment with me.

The saying is “dog people go to parks, cat people go on the internet”.

I’ve found this to be true - i’ve connected with so many of you through the great questions you’ve sent my way.

When I answer those questions, I always ask for pictures of your cats, because I want to know who these cats are. I want to look them in the eyes and put a face to the name.

I’ve found that people reach out when they:

  • Need perspective and a different way forward.
  • Are thinking about “What should I do? How can I treat this problem? Is there a better way to do this”?
  • Do not feel listened to at their vets.
  • They have option overload: their cat has multiple problems, they don’t know what to do, and the future looks overwhelming and bleak.
  • Are not sure if they agree with the advice they have received for their cat, whether it’s food, medicine, surgery or a particular approach to a problem.
  • Are not getting enough detailed advice for their cat.
  • Are getting a massive amount of detail online, and are not sure how it all fits together for their cat.
  • Have a technical question, like “is it safe to give X amount of fluids or medication”.
  • Would love to see their arthritic, pancreatitis, CKD, diabetic etc afflicted kitty do better
  • Read online about side effects, should they worry?
  • I’m treating my cat this way, but can or should I do things that way?
  • Have a “basic” question that isn’t so basic because it’s hard to get them answered at your vet’s, because they don’t offer some of the things you read online about.
  • Sometimes things might be going well for them, and they simply want confirmation that they are along the right path.

Perspective is power.

We all have blind spots in our lives, especially when it comes to the care of someone you love. A discussion with someone who cares can give a new way forward. It can help confirm that your already on the right path. It can help kick at the darkness, or open things up in a new way.

It’s knowing when to try, when to go for it. Sometimes it’s knowing when to let go.

At it’s best, it’s people connecting together, around these furry little cats that give us humanity.

So, I'm now offering in-depth Video Consultations where we do just that.

Dr. Kris In-Depth Video Consultation

How does it work:

  1. Fill in this form, and we book you a time. We do the consult (skype, zoom - we send you all the details).
  2. You don’t need special equipment or software - just a computer, smartphone or tablet that has internet access.

When we begin, the floor is yours. I listen. The biggest service I can do for you cat is to listen to what you have to say.

Im listening for details. Im making notes about what you have to say, and how you say it. Im listening for what you perhaps didn't say.

We talk about what you want to know, to ensure you questions are answered.

I then ask questions and do a case review. You show me images, results or realtime video of what your cat is doing - whatever we need to understand the best way forward.

Then, we do the scratch pad.  We open up the dialogue. Get some new ideas. Throw out ideas that don’t work. Think differently. Start from…ahem…scratch. I talk to you as if you were sitting across from me in real life.

You obtain a  60-90 minute, online Video consultation, with a copy of the recording you can refer back to.

Can you diagnose my cat online or write prescriptions? If I saw you in person with my mobile vet unit, I could diagnose and write prescriptions. Since this is online, we don’t diagnose or do prescriptions.

We make prescriptions for the brain - the Scratch Pad. New ways of approaching your cats problems. If I think there is something undiagnosed, I will tell you, and you get to discuss it with your local vet.

Do I need special equipment or software? No - just wifi and your computer.

If your cat is critical: You should go to an emergency clinic and not an online consult if your cat is in any way, shape or form experiencing trauma, can’t pee, is seizing, not rousable, very weak, is not breathing normally or has any time sensitive conditions. Not sure you have an emergency? Call your vet.
